The Great Man
Carried by thirteen chapters
In the constellation
The great man is the one in whom the creative power has become fully effective, so that his mere presence sets the world in order. He is named in the recurring oracle formula "It furthers one to see the great man," which counsels seeking out such a person, and in the promise that a time favors the emergence of such leadership.
In THE CREATIVE the great man is the human face of heaven's power:
this shows how the great man brings peace and security to the world through his activity in creating order: "He towers high above the multitude of beings, and all lands are united in peace."
Confucius, quoted on the fifth line ("Flying dragon in the heavens"), describes the resonance he awakens:
Things that accord in tone vibrate together. Things that have affinity in their inmost natures seek one another. ... Thus the sage arises, and all creatures follow him with their eyes.
Where The Superior Man names an inward ideal available to anyone, the great man names its realized, world-ordering form.
